36 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 37

(Check out my new list of 37 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 38!)

Okay, this sounds like one of those lists of Facebook that your friends tag you in. Maybe I should start a list on Facebook too, but I want to keep track of my list here.

I like to make lists. I like to think about all of the things I want to do in my life. I like deadlines. Now, I am 35 at the time of this writing, but I turn 36 in two months, so I am giving myself 14 months to complete everything on the list.

I got this idea from Michelle My Belle, who got the idea from Hula Seventy.

So there you go. And here I go::

36 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 37.
  1. Get off the continent.
  2. Get another tattoo. (Design in progress. You can't rush these things.)
  3. Grow garlic and shallots.
  4. Mosaic the damn backsplash.
  5. Hike in Olympic National Park.
  6. Take a writing class.
  7. Set up shop on Etsy.
  8. Paint a VERY LARGE canvas.
  9. Finish my novel.
  10. Learn to use the rotisserie on our grill. Turns out the rotisserie is a piece of garbage and won't work. :(
  11. Propagate sedums for gifts for my friends' gardens.
  12. Build a bird house.
  13. Finish my quilt.
  14. Make marshmallows from scratch.
  15. Throw a dinner party for 20 people.
  16. Make pickles.
  17. Enlarge my blog readership. I've quadrupled my monthly readers!
  18. Cast in resin.
  19. Visit the San Juans (and preferably camp.) We took a trip to Whidbey Island. It's almost to the San Juans, it counts!
  20. Sew a pillow.
  21. Make art postcards to send unexpectedly to friends.
  22. Ride a roller coaster.
  23. Make my own iron-on transfer t-shirts. I used iron ons on little baggies instead of shirts!
  24. Walk/jog a half-marathon. Working through an achilles injury. I think this nearly counts!
  25. Take a glass blowing class.
  26. Teach a mosaic or concrete sculpture class.
  27. Watch a documentary on Picasso.
  28. Master the application of liquid liner.
  29. Cook everything in my Vietnamese cookbook. Cooked everything that looked interesting to me and then got a little bored.
  30. Take a yoga class.
  31. Take a ballroom dancing class and convince Trevor to take ballroom dancing class with me. We bought the lessons, now I just have to wait for my ankle to heal a little more!
  32. Write a new business plan. Done! Trying to follow it, but I think it already needs to be updated.
  33. Make/install some guerilla art.
  34. Buy an original artwork. (Found two different pieces I want to buy. Now just saving money!)
  35. Visit Portland and pick out my dream neighborhood/house. I want to live in the Mount Tabor region or Oregon City. (Just outside of Portland, cool retro 50's houses)
  36. Make jewelry using shrinky dinks.

  1. What a great idea. I should do my own list since I'll be turning 50 in 27 months (it takes longer to complete lists when the older you get). If you have any luck on 31 let me know. I've been trying to talk Paul into taking dance classes for ten years now!

  2. I think I can help you reach a few of those goals - For #17 (Enlarge my blog readership) I just linked you up to the My Bloglist section on my blog
#11 Propagate sedums - Hey, this is for the most part really easy. Put the stem of anything that breaks off in the ground.Sedums start with almost no effort. You may need to pick a few if the bottom fleshy leaves off to have enough stem for roots to start. For the more difficult check out the double wall potting technique tutorial on my July 25 blog post.

  3. Hey, thanks, Carina!
I have been expanding my sedums okay in the yard, but I want to put them into pots and expand them that way. I also love ice plants but can't figure out how to divide them without them looking awful.

  4. I'm going to be 60 in 8 months....Hum...I think I better stretch this out more. Actually, when I get the okay from my doctor regarding my neck my goal is to become strong and swim laps every day.

  7. I love how leaving the continent and finishing a novel reside on the same list as mastering the application of liquid liner. I'm jealous of your 36 things...I have 41!

  11. Well this totally caught my eye, except I am already 37 so I guess I was looking to see where I've got some catching up to do!
I'd probably better start on my list for before 40.
I'm doubtless a bit of a slacker, but is 14 months realistic for these? Although, I see you already have a number of them crossed off, which is great. Fascinating list, I hope you get there!
